Naturally, Bondara has felt the bondage boom more sharply than most. We’ve observed a 52% surge in Bondage & Fetish sales in the last year (that’s a lot of handcuffs!)
So, we summoned our kinky customers to see how BDSM has taken their bedrooms captive. And the results are eye-watering… One thing is for sure: people are reconsidering their vanilla credentials.
The BDSM Boom
From tops and bottoms, littles and Daddy Doms to safe words and hard limits, the BDSM lexicon has gone mainstream while we enjoy pro-Domme dramedies, Insta rope bunnies, and pop stars; squeaking across red carpets in top-to-toe latex.
Closer to home, UK fetish clubs are currently flooded with membership applications while the tabloid media clamber to scandalise the uptake. Meanwhile, behind closed doors, we’re getting kinkier with surging demands for over-the-door and mattress restraints, sex swings and other BDSM-flavoured home improvements.
Survey Highlights
At Bondara HQ, we aim to satisfy every appetite with our ever-inclusive range of quality bondage and fetish gear. So, we probed deeper to discover what our kinky customers are screaming out for… Here’s what you said:
- Interestingly, almost half of respondents (44%) identify as a switch. This means that most of you are actually Dominant and submissive, depending on how you feel in the moment! Meanwhile, a quarter of you takes charge as Dominant, while 28% will only ever submit to their master.
- Less of a surprise is that 79% of kinksters prioritise the quality of their BDSM equipment over price, aesthetic and material. Nobody wants their restraints tearing apart mid-scene, and durable, body-safe and risk-free fetish toys are a must for extreme acts. Safety first, am I right?!
- Generously, more than half over you (56%) treat your partner to kinky gear over buying for yourself. Although, we’re pretty sure there is something in it for you too 😉
What’s Your Fetish?
- BDSM is all about sharing and honing skills such as Servitude, Shibari, Flogging, and Wax Play, to name a few! You rated your experience level Novice (38%), Intermediate (52%) and Expert (7%), while a spirited 3% had no experience but were eager to try! Indeed, if you could do with some tips and tricks, Bondara is always here to help.
- Almost half of our kinky customers get hot for Restraint Play as their primary fetish (47%), with Power Exchange (14%) in second place and Impact Play (13%) coming closely up the rear. Albeit, honourable mentions go to Sensation Play (8%), Chastity Play (8%), and Medical Fetishism (7%) – Somebody call the nurse!
Favourite Gear
- Indeed, bed restraints and cuffs came out on top of your favourite Bondage and Fetish products, with Whips, Spreader Bars, Floggers and Rope close behind.
- When asked which sex toys you combine with BDSM play, the mighty Wand Vibrator dutifully topped the lot (Forced Orgasm Play in rope, anyone?). But neck and neck came Cock Rings, Butt Plugs, Dildos and Strap-Ons, not to mention Clit and Nipple Clamps, F*ck Machines and Penis Pumps!
What You Really, Really Want!
But most importantly, you let us know which kinks or fetishes you’d want to see (better) represented at Bondara…
- While both Cosplay/Role Play Costumes and MedFet came in joint first, desires to expand our Restraints range came in second, with special mentions to real leather bondage. Calls to bolster our Chastity collection came in third, and FemDom gear was riding high in fourth position.
- You called out for more Plus Size fetishwear and Cross-Dressing options for Forced Feminisation/Sissy Play, while Rubber lovers requested an affordable Latex range. We hear you, so watch this space 😉
- Lastly, taboo-teasers expressed a strong desire for Ageplay (Adult babies, DDlg) options, Pet Play supplies (pups, kittens and foxes too!), plus you really want some equipment for the ever-popular Watersports category. All to be confirmed, you’ll have to wait and see!
