Sex Toy Cleaning And Care Guide

Once you've found the ideal sex toy, you'll want to make sure that it lasts a long time and stays in tip top condition for many nights to come. Whether you've chosen a rabbit vibrator, a simple bullet, dildo, cock ring or something more complex like a sex machine, it's vital that you know how to clean and care for them properly. Our Sex Toy Cleaning and Care Guide gives you tips and tricks on how to clean, as well as the no nos of sex toy maintenance so you can enjoy the yes yes yes.

Where Should I Store My Sex Toys?

Storing a sex toy isn't as easy as chucking it into your sock drawer. You should always store sex toys separately in cool, dark places to avoid discolouration or even melting. Don't worry, your sex toys are perfectly safe to use - they're just a little fussy about how they're stored!

Rubber/PVC/TPE and Silicone toys should never be stored together in the same place (unless they're each in individual bags) as the materials will often cause a chemical reaction and melt or fuse together. If you currently store all of your sex toys together then they are more than likely to be damaged in some way. Separating your sex toys from each other using a sock or another similar fabric you can avoid damaging your purchase. It is important that you do not continue to use a toy that has been stored with others and been damaged as a result.

If you intend to store your toy for any more than a few days, you should always remove the batteries.

What Lubricant Should I Use?

It's vital that you take into account what kind of lubricant you're using with your sex toys. Using silicone or oil based lubricants with many rubber or silicone toys can destroy the surface and ruin your toy. Silicone lubricant is amazing for use with many toys and safe for anal or vaginal use (skin on skin contact, no toys), but you do need to keep an eye on what materials you use it with.

We will always label what materials our toys are made from but if you have any doubt, contact our Customer Services team for more information.

Silicone Lube is safe to use with ABS plastic, metal, glass, ceramic and latex (including condoms). However, it should not be used with silicone toys, jelly rubber, PVC, TPE/TPR or Fleshlight's 'Real Feel Superskin'.

Water-Based Lube is safe to use with silicone, ABS plastic, jelly rubber, TPE/TPR, Fleshlight's 'Real Feel Superskin', Tenga masturbators, PVC, latex (including condoms), metal, glass and ceramic.

NEVER use an oil based lubricant or massage oil with sex toys or for penetrative sex - especially if you are using condoms, as they are likely to tear or split.

How Do I Maintain My Sex Toy?

Cleaning, proper storage, correct lube and fresh batteries are usually all you will need to keep your toy in great condition. Some toys like Fleshlight masturbators do have a ‘care powder' available that helps to keep the material soft and lifelike but you can also use plain corn starch on these kind of TPE/TPR products to keep them feeling skin-like.

Always keep an eye out for any cracks, discolouration or damage to your sex toy and replace it immediately if you spot any major issues. Don't forget that if your toy becomes faulty within 180 days and you've followed our storage guidelines then we will replace or refund your order.

How Should I Clean My Sex Toy?

Always clean your sex toy thoroughly after every use. Build-up of microscopic bacteria and germs can not only damage your health but your toy as well. It is especially important to give anal toys a thorough clean to avoid infection and prolong the life of your toy. It's also incredibly important to clean everything carefully if you're sharing your toys with a partner.

Most sex toys are easily cleaned with a mild antibacterial soap or product specifically designed for cleaning sex toys. If your sex toy is waterproof then you can run it under the tap, lather up or spray with cleaner before rinsing and drying thoroughly. If it is not waterproof use a sex toy cleaner and a wet cloth to carefully and thoroughly clean the toy (be careful of the buttons or battery cap!).

Both waterproof and non-waterproof toys should always be dried thoroughly before storing. If you have a Fleshlight you can also apply renewing powder to keep your toy in the best possible condition, but head over to our special Fleshlight Guide for more information.
