We have been using sounding rods for a few years now. Starting with silicon smooth flexible ones. Metal plugs solid and hollow, vibrating ones and we even own a full set of rods in sizes thin to scary but this is our first ribbed one. The narrow tip is perfectly pointed for entry without pain then as the ribbed section enters it changes the sensation straight away in a good way. Its definitely worth getting if you enjoy sounding.
