Pleasure for the People!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With taglines like “Make Masturbation Better” and “More Pleasure to More People!”, it’s unsurprising that TENGA is known as one of Japan’s premier sex toy retailers. Pioneering hygiene, functionality and, most importantly,<\/em> pleasure, TENGA’s Founder Koichi Matsumoto originally worked on sports cars as an auto-engineer. If that <\/em>doesn’t give you an idea of their branding, I don’t know what will!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a fateful day in a DVD store, Matsumoto was struck by the adult section. All the male products had lewd images on the packaging, were shaped like sex organs, and almost none had very much information about the manufacturer. “A product meant for something as natural as masturbation<\/em>“, he thought, “shouldn’t give people the feeling they’re doing something weird or wrong. They shouldn’t be hidden away in the back corner as if to say they’re not meant to be seen.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so, the concept of TENGA was born! Matsumoto wanted clear information about the toys and the company that created them on the packaging. Plus, they would be high quality and something a customer could pick up off the shelf without shame or embarrassment. With little experience in the sex toy industry, Matsumoto turned to a close friend to make his prototype products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interesting Beginnings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

That friend was a dentist, and Matsumoto settled on using the same methods and materials as dental impressions to create the original internal structures. He then went about collecting supplies from all over, including hardware stores and toy shops. He experimented with anything and everything, from toy hammers and shampoo bottles to create the now-celebrated plastic casing. But finally, with a selection of five innovative products, the TENGA CUP series was made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the contact he made in the same DVD shop he thought of the TENGA brand, Matsumoto found himself a production facility and a distribution team, launching the original five products on July 7th, 2005. The team set their sights on steady sales and had 100,000 units made for the launch. To their surprise, they sold out in their first month, selling 1 million products in their first year alone!<\/p>\n\n\n

From its initial launch in Japan, TENGA went worldwide in 2007. Selling its groundbreaking sex toys in 45 countries, they have sold over 52 million products as of 2017. Now, that’s a lot <\/em>of sex toys! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TENGA also has its brand designed by women, for women “iroha”, and in 2016, opened its own Non-Profit Organisation, TENGA Healthcare, to provide funding for research into sexual dysfunction, fertility problems and sex in later life. WOW… a lot has certainly come from that small beginning in a DVD shop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
