Top Dog: Why We Love Doggy Style

Recently, we did a poll on our Twitter page to find out which sex position you love the most – and it turns out the top dog in the bedroom is doggy! Doing it doggy has plenty of benefits; from deeper penetration to G-spot stimulation, this popular sex position is great for girl-on-girl, guy-on-girl, girl-on-guy and guy-on-guy – it’s no wonder we love it so much!

But, for those who haven’t tried it, what’s it all about?

Doggy style is a low-kink way to take your sex up a gear. To get down and doggy with it, the “giver” stands or kneels behind their partner before inserting their penis or strap on into the vagina or anus. In the prime position for penetration, G-spot and P-spot stimulation has never been so easy. If you’re the receiver, show off the junk in your trunk and receive deeper-than-ever penetration.

Why we love it…

During doggy, the pace is determined by the dominant partner and they can use the receiver’s hips for control. Not only does this give a sense of vulnerability and submission (minus the BDSM), it’s also great for guy-on-girl as he can sense when he’s close and slow down, giving her time to catch up and increase chances of a joint climax.

If it’s the girl on all fours, take the position up a notch by giving some breast play. If you like things a bit rougher, grab their hair for more intense sex or try a doggy style enhancer strap.

Despite the giver being in control, the receiver can still have a say by arching their hips lower or higher – read the body language! Higher is a signal for more, letting the dominating partner penetrate deeper as the angle is improved. Lower, however, is a subtle way of saying to go slower or softer and reduces the depth of penetration.

Due to the nature of doggy, you don’t need to lay down and risk getting bed hair. Do it semi-dressed, anywhere in the house and start your day on a high with a sexy quickie before work.

To top it all off, doggy is the ideal position for watching yourself penetrate your partner – perfect for a mid-sex ego boost!

Don’t be put off…

Of course, there are some aspects of doggy that people don’t love. However, there are ways around these and it definitely shouldn’t put you off.

Due to the nature of the position, you don’t get much eye contact which can make the sex feel impersonal and less intimate. On the one hand, this can be a huge plus for people who can be a bit shy in the bedroom as it encourages you to lose your inhibitions. Even so, if visual contact is important to you, set yourself up in front of a mirror; not only will this let you see your partner, you’ll love watching yourself too.

Ouch! If you’re on your hands and knees, try to avoid doing it on a carpet or rug (hello, friction burn). Climax is the goal, not chafing, so we recommend putting a pillow underneath your knees to help avoid this. This method can become annoying if your sex is particularly vigorous as the cushion can slip. If you think this could be you, take things to the bed or stand up and rest over something (a table, a windowsill…the possibilities are endless).

For all its plus points, doggy does not offer clitoral stimulation – something which can be hugely influential in getting a woman to orgasm. Therefore, it’s a great excuse for introducing a sex toy! Grab a bullet and hold it against her clit during penetration for a hot, passionate session for you both.
