Suspension Bondage at Erotica 2013

Finally, it’s Fetish Friday! The mayhem of Erotica 2013 is over and now we can get on with sharing some of the weird and wonderful things we saw there, and today that is suspension bondage.

The Cirque du Soleil of the bondage world, suspension bondage is rope bondage for the hardcore, the artistic and the very talented and should not be attempted by amateurs.

Much like many painful pleasures in the world of BDSM, suspension bondage originates from an ancient form of torture, Japanese torture to be precise. It makes you wonder whether anyone ever enjoyed it, back when it was meant for cruelty.

So who likes it now?

Well, anyone who’s into regular bondage may enjoy the added thrill of being helplessly suspended, an inanimate object, completely at the mercy of someone else. And for the ‘rigger’, the pleasure may be in seeing their bound submissive not on a bed or floor but proudly suspended in mid-air like a piece of kinky artwork.

A recommendation echoed to the crowd at Erotica, from a gentleman who was most assuredly an expert in the field, was that you shouldn’t attempt suspension bondage until you have at least 2 years experience in ordinary rope bondage.

When you’re preparing a subject for suspension the rigger should ensure that majority of the pressure is not on one singular part of the body but spread across a wider surface area. It is also very important that no rope is ever placed around the neck and any mistakes could prove to be fatal.

Here you can see one of our gorgeous Bondara Bunny Girls being suspended by a bondage professional in an Erotica show – and she loved it!

If you’d like to take an intermediate set you could try partial suspension, this is where the subject keeps one foot on the floor to support some of their weight (as in the photo above).

Always remember that trust and communication are key to any BDSM or edge play, as this should be thrilling not frightening!

So if you think you’re ready to take rope bondage to the next level, give suspension bondage a try and let us know how it goes 😉
